Join the data science team at Trust Power, a data driven energy startup based in Oxford. Help our growing user base reduce their energy use, save on their bills and move to a low carbon future.
Our company is Trust Power, we are part of the Low Carbon group of companies, founded to make a lasting impact on climate change. Trust Power’s goal is to enable households to slash their carbon emissions and energy bills. We use data to help customers understand how they use energy and give personalised advice on the costs and benefits of low carbon technologies such as solar PV, home batteries, heat pumps and EVs. All this is provided through our smart phone app Loop. Loop connects to a home’s smart meter, collects half-hourly data and combines with contextual and external data to provide personalised advice.
The UK is in the middle of an energy transition: distributed solar and wind generation is replacing fossil fuel power stations; electric cars are replacing petrol and diesel cars; and home heating is moving from gas to electricity. The roadmap for Loop puts households in the centre of this transition: using customer’s data to optimise the choices they make both at the point of choosing to install new technologies, but then also afterwards to optimise their comfort, cost and carbon emissions.
We are growing quickly and have an exciting roadmap planned. We're looking for data scientists to make all this stuff happen!
We are a friendly team with a family feel, with our HQ right in the heart of Oxford - a stone's throw from the new Westgate Centre. We work hard and have fun whilst doing it. We have secure bike storage, a newly refurbished, swanky office; kitchen area with all mod-cons.
What the data science team does at Trust Power
The data science team’s work is embedded throughout Trust Power. You will be empowered to use your skills to add value to our company and your work will be championed throughout the organisation. You will be expected to present the data science team’s work both internally and to external partners.
As a team, we’ve developed the algorithms that power the solar and battery simulator in the Loop app, working with our in-house software development team to get them into production. The data science roadmap includes building tools around the electrification of heat, home insulation and how homeowners with home batteries or electric cars can reduce their bills in conjunction with time of use tariffs.
We build tools that enable data driven improvements to the Loop product and our marketing spend. The data science team have built monitoring bots and dashboards to track how customers find out about Loop, onboard with Loop and how they use the product after they’ve joined. These are used to drive decisions from marketing spend to redesigns of key screens which we validate through A/B experiments.
